Camino de Santiago to Fisterra by Bicycle
Camino de Santiago to Fisterra by Bicycle
Our first stage begins in the Plaza del Obradoiro, in Santiago. We leave the city by the Rua de Hortas and the Carballeira (oak grove) of San Lourenzo, and we follow the signs through a soft landscape, full of meadows and mountains, until we reach the town of Negreira. The only difficulty is the Alto do Mar de Ovellas, of 272 meters, located just before the medieval bridge of Ponte Maceira.
After Negreira we find a section that runs through forests and has many slopes. From Vilaserio, we entered the so-called Terra do Xallas, a plateau dedeicada to livestock. Past Santa Mariña we arrive at Monte Aro; unfortunately, the Camino here has been cut by an owner, so we will have to surround it. Before reaching Oliveroa, we can enjoy the views over the Fervenza reservoir. The first part of our stage today runs along the river Xallas until we reach Logoso. Here it is convenient to buy food and water, since we will not find more establishments in many kilometers. Here we can also find a fork in the road to Muxía, if we wish to take it.
We continue towards Cee, passing through the factory in Hospital. On our way we will find two chapels, that of Nosa Señora das Neves and that of San Pedro Mártir, and after this last, we will be able to contemplate the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. We descend along the road and arrive at the coastal town of Cee. From here, we will follow the Atlantic coast between cliffs and beaches, until we reach the Finisterre lighthouse, where we can contemplate the sunset.
As an option, we also offer the possibility of traveling the Galician coast to Muxia, where the sanctuary of Nosa Señora de Barca, located next to the sea, is located and which appears at the end of the film "The way".
