Camino de Santiago to Fisterra

Know our itinerary

Our first stage begins at Obradoiro square in Santiago. We exit the city through the ría de Hortas and the “carballeira” (oak grove) of San Lourenzo, and we follow the signs through a beautiful landscape, full of meadows and hills, until we reach the town of Negreira. The only difficulty in the road is the Alto do Mar de Ovellas, 272m. high, located slightly before the medieval bridge of Ponte Madeira.

This stage, one of the longest ones in the Camino, has two parts. The first, until Vilaserio, passes through forests and has quite a few slopes. Starting from Vilaserio we enter the region called Terra do Xallas, a plateau devoted mostly to cattle. After Santa Mariña we arrive to Mount Aro; unfortunately, the road there has been cut off by a landowner, so we must surround the mount instead of climbing it.

Before reaching Oliveiroa we can enjoy the views over the Fervenza reservoir.

Some pilgrims walk today’s stage straight to Fisterra, but given the length of such a route, we advise to make an intermediate stop at Cee.

The first half of our stage follows the Xallas river until we reach Logoso. Here we should supply ourselves with food and drink, since we won’t find other stores in quite a few kilometres. We can also take a fork on the road here to Muxía, if we wish to do so.

We follow the road towards Cee, passing through the big factory at Hospital. We’ll find in our journey two hermitages, at Nosa Señora das Neves and at San Pedro Mártir, and after the latter, we’ll have our first look at the Atlantic Ocean. We descend following the road and we’ll reach the coastal town of Cee.

We’ll walk this stage following the atlantic coast, between cliffs and beaches, until we reach the Finisterre lighthouse, where it is a tradition to watch the sun as it sets into the ocean.

If you wish, you can continue your journey in an additional stage, following the galician coast until Muxía, where we’ll be able to visit the sanctuary of Nosa Señora de Barca, located along the sea, which appeared in the final scene of the movie “The Way”.
